Description: This scoping review aims to understand the extent and type of evidence which investigates factors which influence the mental health of young people as they transition out of state care. Care experienced people have disproportionately high rates of mental health difficulties and transitioning out of care is a particularly hazardous time for worsening or emerging mental health difficulties. It is important to understand the factors which increase risk for these problems, to find strategies which might mitigate these outcomes. The Joanna Briggs Institute’s methodology for scoping reviews will be followed to conduct a scoping review of academic and grey literature on mental health, transitions out of care and related influencing factors (Peters et al., 2015; Peters, 2017). Peer reviewed research will be extracted from Web of Science Core Collection, APA PsychNet and Scopus, and grey literature will be found using guidance from Godin et al. (2015). Quantitative and qualitative research will be included provided participants are either care-experienced people, or relevant persons (e.g., carers, teachers) reporting on care-experienced people. There are no limitations on the date of publication or location of included research, though research must be published in the English language.
